Join the Urban Ecology Center (UEC) research team and experience bird banding up close! Learn more about migration, birds, and how they help inform our land management and restoration.

What to Expect

We'll meet at 7:30 AM at the UEC building at Washington Park and take a short walk around the lagoon (all paved paths) to join the research team at their banding station behind the band shell.

  • A limited number of chairs will be available (you are also welcome to bring your own!) for anyone that would like to sit.

  • If you are interested in checking the bird nets with our banders, be prepared to hike over uneven and possibly muddy ground. Stay until the end of the banding at 11AM if you are able, or leave when you must.

  • Note: Banding is highly dependent on weather and will be canceled if conditions are poor.

    • We'll still be there to bird or sit and enjoy a warm beverage inside regardless of weather conditions!

  • We will have binoculars and field guides available to borrow.

  • We love new birders! As always, birders of all skill levels and ages are welcome.

  • Since our events are public spaces, it is possible that you may appear in photos. Please notify someone on our team if you prefer not to have your photo taken at an event.
