Grassland Birds and More!

  • Mequon Nature Preserve 8200 West County Line Road Mequon, WI, 53097 United States (map)

The Dickcissel is an iconic grassland bird and has a beautiful song! Photo by Rita Flores Wiskowski.

Join us for a search for grassland birds including Dickcissels, Henslow’s Sparrows, and Eastern Meadowlarks as we explore the trails at the Mequon Nature Preserve. The trails are grassy, but not too uneven, with some hilly areas. There is also a lookout tower, so those willing to climb it will have some wonderful views of the wetland areas and the birds that make their homes there.

What to Expect

We’ll meet in the parking lot near the nature center building.

Please note that the Nature Center building will not be open, so there will be no bathrooms in the area, but there are gas stations and fast food restaurants within a 5 minute drive.

We love new birders! As always, birders of all skill levels are welcome and we have child- and adult-sized binoculars available for those who’d like to borrow a pair.
