Join us in celebrating spring for this Learn to Bird event! Turville is a gem in the heart of the concrete jungle of Madison. With restored prairies and woodlands stretching along glacial Lake Monona, it offers great views and lots of great birding habitat.

Binoculars available and all levels of birders are welcome. We are family and kid-friendly and we love new birders!

Parking and Transportation

  • We will meet in the parking lot.

  • For bus access, the nearest stop is John Nolen & E. Olin (Madison Metro 12 & 13).

  • For bike access, the Capital City Trail goes right past the conservation park.

What to Expect

Total trail length is an estimated 2.3 miles long. Dress in layers in case of cool, blustery conditions by the lake! Entry area includes some asphalt and paved trail for about 1/3 mile. This area has uneven blocks and asphalt with potholes. Aside from this area, the trails around the conservancy are primarily packed dirt or mowed grass which can be muddy depending on weather conditions. Wooded sections may be narrow with roots and rocks.

What to Expect and Accessibility

We love new birders! As always, birders of all skill levels and ages are welcome!

  • We have child- and adult-sized binoculars available for those who’d like to borrow a pair!

  • Be sure to dress in layers as this location is along the lake - watch the windchill temps!

  • Since our events are public spaces, it is possible that you may appear in photos. Please notify someone on our team if you prefer not to have your photo taken at an event.
